Wednesday's Watercolours

Artist Bio

Wednesday’s Watercolourists is a group of artists who meet every Wednesday and have done so for the last 6 or more years to explore and participate in their passion for watercolour painting, learning from and enjoying each other’s talents and company. They often take part in various workshops together and love visiting galleries and taking part in other painting opportunities.

Artist Statement

Second exhibition: 2022 Watercolour Allsorts [28 March - 17 April 2022]

The chosen charity is WAGEC (Women and Girls’ Emergency Centre) in light of the rise in domestic violence in this current climate of uncertainty and hardship. WAGEC is a feminist, grassroots organisation that supports women and families in crisis and advocates for social change in the community. They are based in Redfern, Sydney and are a registered charity of the ACNC.

Every night, they support 200 women and children impacted by homelessness, domestic violence and systemic disadvantage, by providing material aid, case management, bio-psycho-social support, accommodation, and crisis responses. Equally they seek to address the underlying causes of gender-based violence through primary prevention activities with communities and private and public entities that want to be a part of the global movement to end gender based violence in a generation.

First exhibition: 2021

Wednesday's Watercolourists have chosen Aussie Ark as the charity to support. Aussie Ark was established in 2011 as ‘Devil Ark’, with a focus on saving the iconic Tasmanian devil from extinction. Since then and due to overwhelming success, the role of the organisation has expanded, and now has vision of creating a long-term future for our threatened Australian species. Aussie Ark will secure wild sanctuaries to conserve our native wildlife, free from unnatural predation. Aussie Ark is an adaptive, innovative, private organisation, committed to changing the trajectory of declining species. Aussie Ark is an incorporated association, registered environmental organisation and charitable institution under the Australian Charity and Not-for-profit Commission.
