With his solo show Ukraine Mon Amour, Sydney artist Steve Starr engages the heroism & stoicism of the Ukrainian people in defending their community against a bullying sociopath. Across Ukraine, atrocities have been committed against civilians by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Many Ukrainian women and children have sought refuge from this chaos in Sydney, Australia while many of the friends have remained to serve in the Ukrainian defense forces.
Artist Steve Starr has been working with the Ukrainian community in Sydney to help ease the transition into Australian life for Ukrainian refugees. Starr has been providing Australian English conversation classes in conjunction with the Ukrainian Council of NSW. Additionally, the Ukrainian Council of NSW has partnered with BeKindSydney to launch the Help Ukrainians to Sydney donation program. https://ukrainian-helping-hand-project.raisely.com
Starr’s abstracts for Ukraine Mon Amour connects the iconography of the Ukrainian landscape to Sydney’s Centennial Park, the birthplace of Australian Federation, as a symbol of the close ties of the Ukrainian community to Sydney Australia. A quarter of sales from Ukraine Mon Amour will be donated to BeKindSydney. Artist official website: https://stevestarr.org/
